Breaking Free from Body Image Restraints (with Elise Liu, MPH, RD, Health Coach)
In this episode, Dan has a conversation about body image with Elise Liu, registered dietitian and health coach, who focuses on helping people rediscover a healthy relationship with food and body, without obsession.
Body image is our relationship with our body—and it’s more in our minds than in the food we eat. (“stop food guilt!”) It’s how men (yes, men!) and women perceive ourselves and how it affects our daily interactions. We can’t bank on our ever-changing bodies to give us self-confidence, instead we can reframe our values starting with respect and gratitude for our body parts, showing off our strengths, focusing on fitness (not size), and not letting our “look” drive our self-worth. Elise shares real patient stories and a body appreciation exercise to help us shift to a healthy mindset around what “beauty” is.
